BioShock 4 isn’t dead, but it’s staying in the shadows for now

Rumors of BioShock 4’s demise have been swirling for months, but Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says the game is still in development. The publisher isn’t ready to show it yet, and details remain locked away, but fans can at least put the cancellation theories to rest for now.

In a recent earnings call, Zelnick addressed questions about the game’s status. He said the team is “hard at work” and that the next BioShock will be revealed when it’s ready. That’s about as much as he would share, leaving everything from setting to protagonist under wraps.

Assassin’s Creed mobile game delayed

The release date for Ubisoft's highly anticipated mobile game Assassin's Creed Jade has allegedly been delayed.

Unlike past franchise entries, this new chapter has avoided even a loose launch target. Given the long gap since BioShock Infinite in 2013, fans have been hoping for an update, but Take-Two seems determined to hold back until the reveal can make a splash.

Large-scale games in the series have always carried big expectations. The studio behind the project, Cloud Chamber, is reportedly aiming for an ambitious open-world design. If true, that level of scope could explain why the publisher is keeping things quiet until the project is further along.

While the game stays in hiding, Netflix’s BioShock movie adaptation is still in development, and Ken Levine’s separate game Judas is progressing at Ghost Story Games. The franchise name is alive in multiple forms, even if the mainline entry isn’t ready for its spotlight.

Fans may have to wait a while before hearing more, but the project is still breathing. Given the series’ history of ambitious reveals, the silence could be setting the stage for something big.

In Rapture or Columbia, patience is part of the game.
